No Man’s Art Gallery and tender prospects present Nocturnas, the first solo exhibition by Alan Hernández (1992, Mexico) in Lisbon, Portugal.
Through textiles, embroidery and crafted materials, Hernández creates hybrid beings that carry traces of intimacy and metamorphosis. Nocturnal life invites another way of seeing: one guided less by certainty and more by instinct, where identities remain fluid and beauty reveals itself slowly.
Known for a self-referential practice that combines a subtle sense of humour with a distinct political charge, Hernández works with intricate textile and beadwork techniques rooted in the craft traditions of his native region. Informed by the textile knowledge passed down from his mother, who worked as a seamstress, he transforms these techniques into immersive installations and scenographic environments.
Through his artistic practice, Hernández rethinks his role as a (queer) male within society, exploring themes of the body, gender, race, sexuality and identity. His sculptural works evolve intuitively throughout the making process, resulting in forms that merge the organic and the phallic, drawing from both nature and the human body.
Alan Hernández graduated in Plastic and Visual Arts from the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (UABJO) in 2020. That same year, he received the CurArte Prize from SECULTA Oaxaca and was awarded the FONCA Young Creators Grant (2020–2021). He was an artist-in-residence at Fundación Casa Wabi in Oaxaca in 2025. His work has been exhibited across Mexico, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands and Canada, and on view at Contextile 2026, the Contemporary Textile Art Biennale in Guimarães.

Através de têxteis, bordados e materiais artesanais, Hernández cria seres híbridos que transportam vestígios de intimidade e metamorfose. A vida noturna convida a uma outra forma de ver: menos guiada pela certeza e mais pelo instinto, onde as identidades permanecem fluidas e a beleza se revela lentamente.
Conhecido por uma prática autorreferencial que alia um subtil sentido de humor a uma marcada dimensão política, Hernández trabalha com técnicas minuciosas de têxtil e missangas enraizadas nas tradições artesanais da sua região de origem. Influenciado pelos conhecimentos têxteis transmitidos pela mãe, que trabalhava como costureira, transforma estas técnicas em instalações imersivas e ambientes de caráter cenográfico.
Através da sua prática artística, Hernández repensa o seu papel enquanto homem (queer) na sociedade, explorando temas como o corpo, o género, a raça, a sexualidade e a identidade. As suas obras escultóricas desenvolvem-se de forma intuitiva ao longo do processo de criação, dando origem a formas que fundem o orgânico e o fálico, inspiradas tanto na natureza como no corpo humano.
Alan Hernández licenciou-se em Artes Plásticas e Visuais pela Universidade Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca (UABJO), em 2020. Nesse mesmo ano, recebeu o Prémio CurArte da SECULTA Oaxaca e foi distinguido com a bolsa Jovens Criadores do FONCA (2020–2021). Em 2025, realizou uma residência artística na Fundación Casa Wabi, em Oaxaca. O seu trabalho foi apresentado em exposições no México, Suíça, França, Países Baixos e Canadá, e integrou a Contextile 2026, Bienal de Arte Têxtil Contemporânea, em Guimarães.
